I give an introduction of relativistic hydrodynamics as an effective field theory, and in parallel explain how the observation of fluid-like behavior led to a renaissance in the study of relativistic fluids. I outline what theories give rise to hydrodynamics, and how the most recent data at the LHC challenges our understanding of these issues.
